Unforgettable Two Day Mountain Wedding in the German Alps

Last Updated: April 7, 2024 | Published On: January 15, 2024

Germany’s Bavarian Alps are one of the most underrated, yet incredible places to get married. From towering mountains and sparkling lakes to quaint towns, the region is post-card worthy, to say the least. When Katie + Rob reached out about planning their adventurous mountain wedding in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I was thrilled.

Not only is Garmisch-Partenkirchen my chosen home after falling in love with the area almost ten years ago, but it’s one of the best places to plan an adventure elopement. While working through the planning process with Katie and Rob, we explored a variety of possibilities. Since Garmisch-Partenkirchen has a little bit of everything, from epic hikes to calm meadows and rushing waterfalls, it was almost hard to narrow down what would be best. Over time, we settled on the perfect duo – lakes and summits. The two wanted to celebrate just the two of them, and also alongside close family and friends.

Katie and Rob’s wedding took place over two days. The first was spent enjoying time as a group. We started with getting ready in the morning and first look in town, and afterward a heartfelt ceremony at a lake in the area. While the forecast had threatened for heavy rain and low clouds, which had caused us to make significant changes to their timeline and come prepared with umbrellas, in the end, we only felt a few stray drops. Even the sun made an appearance! After our time at the lake, everyone went back to their vacation rental for dinner and spent the rest of the evening hanging out.

On day 2, Katie and Rob wanted to embark on something especially exciting – a hike up one of my favorite panoramic summits in the German Alps. At the top, you’re rewarded with views of several mountain ranges, and get an incredible variety of landscapes. While the two had stayed up late the previous night, their excitement for every corner we turned on the trail was infectious. Before we knew it, hours had passed, and we were heading back down to the valley where goodbyes were said. Katie + Rob’s vision for an unforgettable mountain wedding was everything we could have hoped for, even with the pivoting plans due to weather. Their flexibility is what made it all flow smoothly. I can’t thank them enough for trusting me, and allowing me to capture them in my favorite corner of the Alps.

Real Germany Elopement Experience: A review from my couple

”Christine is an absolute mastermind and a true professional. She has unbeatable knowledge of the local surroundings to ensure we got to have our dream micro wedding come to life, despite some weather hiccups. She is highly skilled behind the camera as well as interpersonally, and we never felt awkward posing. Hiking with her to our mountain top location was a blast and she is extremely easy to get along with. She even drove us in her car to our various locations and brought us snacks. We are so thrilled with our photos (I can’t stop looking at them) and even more so, the whole experience of eloping in the Alps, and Christine was absolutely key in making our vision come to life. If you are considering getting married in the Alps and need a photographer, hire Christine!”
