A Sunny Autumn Elopement in Engadin St. Moritz

Engadin St. Moritz: where luxury meets adventure, and the perfect place to plan an autumn elopement in the Alps.

While many couples eloping in Switzerland opt for popular areas around Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and Grindelwald, one of our favorite destinations is actually found in South Eastern Switzerland’s Engadin region. Countless alpine lakes can be found throughout the valleys, rugged peaks tower up to 4,000 meters, and glaciers tumble over mountainsides. In autumn, you’ll also be greeted with breathtaking yellow and orange larches, which fill the valleys and hillsides from mid-to-late October. Year-round, this area is a dream. 

When Sherri + John decided to elope, they wanted something unique and less touristy, and we jumped at sharing our favorite place. 

The autumn air was brisk, but the sunshine warmed our skin. The day revolved around two locations- a quiet lake tucked among serene forests, and a sunset, mountain-top vow exchange. What we loved the most was how quiet everything was. No hustle and bustle – just the quiet peace that comes from being surrounded by an epic landscape with great company. We loved Sherri + John’s readiness to focus on building an experience, and not holding back on the things that make them who they are and what their relationship is all about. 

St. Moritz Elopement Day Timeline

This adventure elopement in St. Moritz was an experience from sunrise to sunset, thanks to the ideal daylight hours October allows for. Between getting ready and first looks at Sherri + John’s stunning hotel, to hiking at an alpine lake and a mountain top ceremony, it was a gorgeous mix of scenery and early fall colors. You can view Sherri and John’s elopement timeline overview below. 

• 7:15 am – Meet at your accommodation for getting ready 
• 8:30 am – First look on hotel grounds
• 9:00 am – Leave hotel packed and ready to go, drive to trailhead 
• 9:30 am – Arrive at lake trailhead, begin the hike to the lake
• 11:00 am – Lake Time
  • Exchanging gifts
  • Sharing a sweet treat
  • Exploring
• 1:00 pm – Hike back down from the lake
• 2:15 pm – Drive to the funicular
• 2:30 pm – Arrive at funicular, purchase tickets  
• 2:45 pm – Take the funicular up the mountain
• 3:00 pm – Late lunch on the mountain
• 4:00 pm – Hike up from the restaurant to higher up on the mountain and select a ceremony location. 
• 4:30 pm – Mountain top celebration
  • Reading letters from family and friends
  • Ceremony and exchanging rings 
  • Enjoying the view, exploring, and evening/sunset portraits
• 6:30 pm – Sunset. 
• 6:50 pm – Hike back to the funicular and ride down the mountain.
• 7:30 pm – Arrive at cars, say goodbyes
