Summer Solstice Adventure Elopement in the Alps

Last Updated: April 7, 2024 | Published On: June 23, 2022

Daria and Noel’s summer solstice adventure elopement in the alps was simply perfect. The pair’s love for adventure, and their willingness to embrace whatever came their way (lost luggage, and weather included) made for a memorable alps’ elopement.

Elopement Day Timeline

Daria and Noel had dreamed of exchanging vows on top of a mountain on the summer solstice. When a stormy weather forecast had other plans, we pivoted locations and drove to an area with more stable weather. Their adventure elopement included two locations in the Bernese Alps.

Daria + Noel’s Summer Solstice Elopement Highlight Video

Daria + Noel received a mini highlight film from their alps elopement. You can check out their video below.

Getting Ready and First Look in the Mountains

Daria and Noel started off the day getting ready at their suite, Hotel Aspen Grindelwald. This peaceful hotel had an incredible view of the surrounding mountains. Meeting them at their hotel, it immediately felt like being with old friends.

While Daria got her hair and makeup done, Noel ran a few errands, and finished packing up their gear for the day. They changed into their attire separately, so they could do a first look in the meadows just outside the hotel.

Right before their first look, we got a brief rain shower, and then, the sun shone again. Walking up the steep hillside to their first look location, we were all mesmerized by the view. Mountains towered all around us. It was the perfect spot to kick off the day.

Exploring Above Lauterbrunnen

Once Daria and Noel had their first look, we drove to the other side of the mountains. From here, it was just a short train ride to their first location. It was time to enjoy a sweeping meadow overlooking the Lauterbrunnen valley. Here, the pair reveled in the incredible vista, and frolicked through the meadows as if it were the ‘’Sound of Music’’. Afterward, we made a quick stop at a gelato stand for a treat to cool off.

Mountain Top Vows on the Solstice

The time flew by, and before we knew it, it was time to head toward our evening location. We were going to stand on a mountain top on the solstice. Here, Daria and Noel would exchange vows, and celebrate the rest of their night. The last cable car of the day whisked us up the mountain. We’d hike back down on our own. Because we were heading up, when everyone else was descending, the entire place would be ours.

The long, plateaued mountain offered, once again, unbelievable views. After just a few minutes of walking around, we were delighted to see numerous ibex (a type of mountain goat) climbing along the cliffs nearby. We watched them in awe-there were even babies! It was unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

We wandered along the trail, and soon, came across a particularly beautiful spot that would make a perfect place to exchange gifts and vows. The wind had picked up, and the clouds had turned dark on the horizon. We were prepared, and had a building to take shelter in if needed. We weren’t sure if a deluge would hit though!

As Daria and Noel placed their rings on each others hands, there was one, distant rumble of thunder. We all laughed – honestly, it was surreal. While we could see rain on the horizon, we stayed dry. Our mountain remained calm.

As the night wound down, we took portraits, ate dinner, and changed into hiking attire. The hike down in the dark went by quickly. Along the way, we passed some curious cows. By the time we reached our cars, the sky had cleared to reveal stars.

Mission accomplished. Daria and Noel got married on the summer solstice, atop a mountain in the alps. It doesn’t get better than this.

Real Elopement Experience: A Review from our Couple

Christine was absolutely amazing! Based on her portfolio we knew she was going to take incredible photos (and she did!) but she also did so much more than that for us. She helped us put together our perfect elopement day by offering location suggestions based on our activity level, and offered suggestions for amazing vendors that would be available for us. When the weather turned bad on our wedding day she was prepared and had researched nearby mountains and was tracking the weather hour by hour to keep us safe and dry. We had such an unforgettable day in the alps with her! Our pictures (and our entire elopement day) turned out SO much better than we ever could’ve hoped thanks to Christine! We’ll cherish these memories and photos forever!
