For couples who don’t mind hiking, don’t overlook the magic of eloping in the Austrian Alps.

Melissa + Regina chose to elope in the mountains, and specifically planned their celebration around the full moon, which was also a lunar eclipse. Full moons have always been special to them, and it only felt fitting to get married during one.

Melissa + Regina were fully invested in building a simple, connected experience with breathtaking scenery and time to slow down and just enjoy being together. They stayed true to that plan from start to finish, and it paid off.

We met the pair in the early afternoon where we’d take a cable car up to the local mountain hut we were staying the night. Here, we grabbed lunch before checking in. Then, they got ready together. From there, we found a peaceful overlook where Melissa + Regina listened to pre-recorded voice messages from friends and family back home (it was SO SWEET and emotional!). These pre-recordings were done at a small pre-wedding celebration with close friends and family back at home. The service they used, ”At the Beep” was *amazing*.

From there, we began the hike up to their ceremony spot. It was short (albeit steep), and the two crushed it. At the top, we were met with the most incredible view (I can’t stop thinking about it). The cable car had stopped running a while ago, and we had the whole place to ourselves. Melissa + Regina exchanged vows, then performed a simple handfasting ceremony. To ‘’ring’’ in this new chapter, they then brought cowbells. It was the perfect energy to bring to the night.

As the sky began to darken, Melissa + Regina shared their first dance to Moon River (keeping in line with the theme of their day). While they had planned to dance under the rising moon, clouds on the horizon blocked it’s view. Instead, we were graced with soft pink and orange skies.

By the time we hiked back down, the moon had risen above the clouds, gracing us with one breathtaking view to end the night with. It couldn’t have been better (and that last photo, ugh!!).

Melissa + Regina were seriously a joy to work with. Like so often happens at an elopement, we felt like we were hanging out with old friends while having an incredible adventure. We truly couldn’t have asked for a more fun day, and the perfect way to wrap up our summer season. Thank you two these two for trusting us with their vision. ✨

Austrian Alps Elopement Timeline

This adventure elopement in the Austrian Alps included visiting a single location with multiple unique vistas. They utilized a special overnight package we created. The package allowed them to enjoy sunset and moonrise high in the mountains, while also utilizing the cable car to cut down on hiking. This is one huge perk of overnight elopements in the Alps. You can check out Melissa + Regina’s elopement timeline overview below.

  • 12:00 pm – Meet at the cable car station. Purchase tickets, ride up the mountain together.
  • 12:30 pm – Arrive at the mountain hut, check-in, and grab lunch.
  • 1:00 pm – Getting ready coverage/last bits of getting ready at the hut.
  • 2:15 pm – Listen to audio recording of messages from family and friends. Open surprise gift from parents.
  • 3:00 pm – Hike from the mountain hut to the ceremony viewpoint.
  • 4:30 pm – Ceremony, including handfasting and cowbell ringing. Exploring and enjoying the view. First dances as the moon begins to rise.

  • 9:30 pm – Dinner and winding down the evening.

Real Austrian Alps Elopement Experience: A review from our couple

”I’ve been trying to find the right words to encapsulate just how lucky we were to cross paths with Christine & Scott. Grateful is an understatement and certainly doesn’t do justice. From the very first call with them, it felt like we were long-time friends that just hadn’t spoken in a while. It all felt natural, and so genuine. It was so fun to see their excitement with our ideas- you could tell it’s work they are really passionate about. Christine went above and BEYOND with location scouting, communication, back-up plans, and everything else we certainly didn’t think about. My wife & I eloped in the Austrian Alps, and our vision centered around the full moon/total lunar eclipse. For not being astronomers, we were thoroughly impressed at how much thought and effort Christine & Scott put into the logistics around when the moon will rise above the mountain peak, etc. They made our wildest dream a reality, and we cannot thank them enough. We would pick Made in the Mountains over and over again without question. Our favorite thing about the whole experience was the ability to be unapologetically ourselves, with no judgement. They created a safe space for my wife and I to get married, one that would be hard to replicate. We’ve been basking in the phenomenal pictures and teaser film, reliving the day over and over again, with nothing but smiles.
